Carey Schumacher has been catching magic for families since opening San Diego Barefoot Memories in 2002. Since then, she has emerged as one of the most well-known and saught-after modern family portrait photographers in San Diego, and now in New York City as well.

From professional athletes to celebrities to soccer moms, families come to Carey for something far beyond the frozen smiles of yesteryear's formal family portraits. She captures, "not just the way they look, but the way family members interact with each other, the sea, the sand and the sky."

Carey has garnered multiple awards as a professional photographer, had her images published in over a dozen photography magazines, taught photography workshops, spoken across the country on the business of professional photography, and created images for ESPN, press wire services, and the David Beckham Academy, but she will tell you that her favorite roles in life are "wife" and "mom". This commitment family is why her portraits resonate so deeply with dads and moms. "I believe I create a glimpse, a representation, of a family at that point in their family life.
